New Science Breakthrough: The Martian Rover Curiosity
I feel that the idea of Mars being able to support life is very realistic as the Martian surface has some characteristics of Earth's surface. I feel that the creation and sending of Curiosity to Mars is a very bold move which may take a long time, but which could prove something very important: whether humans can live on Mars. I also do believe that it is worth putting large amounts of money to fund these kind of expeditions so for the leader of the science team John Grotzinger to say that he "feel[s] the burden of two and a half billion dollars" is unnecessary as even if the expedition fails, it is still an achievement in itself.
I also feel that scientist should put more effort into Mars-related expeditions and they should not partner Russia as they have a very poor track record. Funding should not be a problem as the results will be worth it as many people are also saying that the Earth, because of global warming etc, is going to become unsuitable for life sooner or later so it would be good to explore Mars as a possibility as early as possible. In the long term, the effects are going to cover the potential losses in terms of money. The scientist should co-operate with NASA, which has a better track record. The best would be that everybody pooled their funds for a common goal.
